Tennis as a Life Skill
The foundation sponsors the High Performance Girls Tennis Teams of the ITC.
Northern Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with the Israel Tennis Centers (ITC), are doing important work when it comes to girls’ tennis in Israel. The ITC Girls Tennis Teams was born in 2011 with the vision of increasing and retaining girls participation in tennis and empowering these girls with leadership skills to stand on their own. The program is a combination of high performance tennis training with top coaches in Israel and leadership development skills. The vision is to create independent and confident girls that will be the leaders of tomorrow in different fields and have a positive impact on local communities. The program has 60 female Israeli players between 9 to 16 years old.
Current research indicates that the average dropout rate for females in sports in Israel is around double that of their male counterparts. The program is specifically aimed at decreasing
dropouts of girls in competitive sports. In addition to improving retention rates, the program teaches valuable lessons in communication and leadership skills. By learning these skills the girls can enhance all aspects of their lives.
The program under the leadership of top Israeli coach Ronen Moralli and Rosa Dembitzer, has incorporated innovative coaching techniques geared specifically to girls and their development. It empowers girls though strong communication lessons and independent thinking and reasoning.
A Success Story
The program has been a tremendous success. There is equality in the number of girls and boys that play in the ITC tennis teams. The dropout rates for girls in tennis has decreased and the number of girls enrolling in tennis centers has doubled. The girls taking part in the program have finished in top places in national championships and competition in international championships has increased.
